Zcash jumped above $800 for the first time since 2016. Grayscale is the catalyst, for now.
The filing is real, the listing is not live, and the tape moved faster than the paperwork.

- →CoinDesk reported Zcash up 48% above $800 on August 22, its first move there since 2016.
- →The move followed Grayscale's amended Zcash Trust filing, which names NYSE Arca and ticker ZCSH.
- →The next test is whether the SEC registration becomes effective, not whether traders liked the headline.
- Form S-3 → A Form S-3 is an SEC filing companies use to register securities for public sale.

- trust → A trust holds an asset and lets investors buy shares tied to that asset.
Zcash traded above $800 on August 22.
CoinDesk reported a 48% intraday jump, marking ZEC's first move above that level since 2016. CoinGecko showed a 32.6% 24-hour gain as of August 22. AMBCrypto earlier reported a smaller 17.49% move to $668.60, with an intraday high of $682.36.
The catalyst is named: Grayscale's Zcash Trust filing. Grayscale filed Amendment No. 4 to its Form S-3 on August 18. Per the filing, the trust intends to list shares on NYSE Arca under ZCSH and issue shares continuously if registration becomes effective.
That last phrase matters. The registration statement is preliminary and not yet effective. The listing is not approved, and ZCSH is not live.
There is also a size question. The filing describes non-binding talks involving a DCG indirect subsidiary for a contribution of about 200,000 ZEC. It also says the investor may contribute more, fewer, or no tokens. AMBCrypto reported the trust held about 388,674 ZEC at the end of June.
If you're holding ZEC today, your bag moved on paperwork before the paperwork finished. The tape matches the story, for now. The number to watch is not just $800. It is whether Grayscale turns a preliminary filing into an effective registration.
Grayscale's choice to file ZCSH before approval put a real catalyst in front of ZEC traders, but the firm now needs the SEC to make the registration effective or the move rests on unfinished paperwork.
By September 30, watch whether the SEC declares the Zcash Trust registration effective and whether NYSE Arca lists ZCSH shares.
