- →Strategy sold common stock last week and kept its bitcoin holdings flat at 840,447 BTC as of Aug. 16.
- →The number to watch is the $4.8 billion dollar reserve, because cash is now competing with bitcoin buys.
- →By next week’s disclosure, holdings above 840,447 BTC would show buying resumed. Flat holdings would make this a real pause.
- Common stock → Common stock is the regular company share that trades on the market and gives owners basic voting rights.
- Preferred stock → Preferred stock is a company share that usually pays a set dividend before regular shareholders get paid.
Strategy sold $333.7 million of common stock last week.
Strategy did not buy or sell bitcoin last week. Michael Saylor’s Monday disclosure showed holdings stayed at 840,447 BTC as of Aug. 16. That is the number Strategy investors watch first.
The second number is now cash. Strategy’s U.S. dollar reserve stood at $4.8 billion as of Aug. 16, enough for 2.8 years of stated dividend coverage. CoinDesk said the company also repurchased $132.2 million of STRC preferred stock and funded $52.4 million of STRC dividends.
Bitcoin Magazine reported Strategy sold 3,458,866 MSTR shares last week. That number comes from one report, so treat it as filing-based until the direct filing is in front of you.
The tape matches the story. Strategy raised cash, bought back preferred stock, and left bitcoin alone. If you own MSTR for automatic bitcoin accumulation, your bag just got a different signal.
This is not Strategy selling bitcoin. It is Strategy choosing not to add bitcoin while paying for the financing around it. That matters because the whole pitch depends on fresh equity turning into more BTC per share.
For now, the pause is the story. The catalyst is named: cash needs and preferred-stock support beat another bitcoin buy last week.
Strategy’s choice to use common-stock proceeds for dollar reserves and STRC buybacks, not bitcoin, shows the treasury machine is paying its own bills first.
By the week ending Aug. 23, holdings above 840,447 BTC means buying resumed; unchanged holdings means the pause held.
