- →Metaplanet added 2,823 BTC today for roughly $170.7 million, raising its total treasury to 43,000 BTC worth approximately $2.6 billion.
- →The purchase makes Metaplanet the third-largest publicly traded bitcoin holder in the world, behind Strategy and Twenty One Capital.
- →Watch for Metaplanet's official TSE Q2 FY2026 filing, expected before end of July, where two reports are giving opposite readings on revenue direction.
- TSE filing → A financial report submitted to the Tokyo Stock Exchange, Japan's main stock market, where Metaplanet is publicly listed under ticker 3350.
- Bitcoin Income Generation → Metaplanet's name for its business of selling bitcoin options to earn regular cash income while the company also grows its BTC holdings.
Metaplanet added 2,823 BTC today. The purchase cost roughly $170.7 million, per CoinDesk, bringing the total treasury to 43,000 BTC.
That puts the Japanese company at number three globally among publicly traded bitcoin holders. Strategy and Twenty One Capital are still ahead, per Bitcoin Treasuries data.
Alongside the purchase, Metaplanet released Q2 FY2026 results for its Bitcoin Income Generation business. The quarter came in at roughly 1.75 billion yen, about $10.85 million, per CoinDesk. The business has brought in roughly 11.4 billion yen over the past year.
Whether revenue grew or fell this quarter is disputed between reports. Metaplanet's official TSE filing will settle it.
Stock rose 3.5% to 207 yen after the announcement.
If you're tracking this ranking race, the number to watch is the gap to Strategy, not the gap to fourth place.
Metaplanet's treasury number is clean. The dilution math is missing, and that's the catch. No BTC-per-share figure means investors can't confirm the accumulation is outrunning the share count.
Metaplanet's official TSE Q2 FY2026 filing, expected before end of July, will confirm whether quarterly revenue grew or fell 41%. One of those readings is wrong.
