- Non-GAAP EPS → Non-GAAP EPS removes one-time accounting charges to show core earnings per share. The GAAP version includes everything, including hits like the impairment.
Tesla kept 11,509 BTC through Q2 2026. CoinDesk reported the position on July 22, citing Tesla's quarterly earnings. The company also reported a $112 million after-tax impairment on digital assets.
That is the story. Tesla did not buy. Tesla did not sell. Bitcoin still entered the income statement because the coin fell 14% during the quarter.
The report puts bitcoin near $83,000 at the start of Q2 and about $58,000 by the end of June. CoinDesk said BTC recently traded at $65,840 on July 22. The recovery does not erase the quarterly accounting hit.
If you hold Tesla for the bitcoin angle, your bag has been mostly frozen since 2022. Tesla bought $1.5 billion of BTC in 2021, sold about 75% in 2022, then sat on the rest. Nearly four years later, the only action is accounting.
The earnings print was mixed. Tesla's earnings release showed revenue of $28.2 billion against a $27.6 billion estimate. Non-GAAP EPS came in at $0.33, below the $0.55 analyst expectation. GAAP net income was $1.11 billion, while free cash flow was negative $1.1 billion.
The number to watch is still 11,509 BTC. Tesla's bitcoin story is not accumulation anymore. It is whether a volatile treasury asset keeps hitting earnings while the core car business works through cash pressure.
Tesla's choice to leave 11,509 BTC untouched is defensible because selling into a weak quarter would turn an accounting hit into a real cash decision.
Watch Tesla's Q3 report before late October 2026 for whether the BTC balance stays at 11,509 or finally changes.
