- →Strategy disclosed a $1.59 billion USD Cash pool and lifted its USD Reserve to $5.10 billion as of Aug. 23.
- →The fresh money is going into cash and share support first, not another bitcoin buy.
- →Watch the next filing before Sept. 7 for whether Strategy keeps cash above $1 billion and BTC holdings unchanged.
- MSTR → MSTR is Strategy's common stock, the main listed share tied to the company's bitcoin strategy.
- STRC → STRC is one of Strategy's preferred shares, which sits beside debt and common stock.
- Capital stack → A company's capital stack is the mix of common stock, preferred shares, debt, and cash it uses to fund itself.
Strategy built a $1.59 billion USD Cash pool. The company disclosed the new pool in an Aug. 24 filing. It also increased its USD Reserve to $5.10 billion as of Aug. 23, per the filing.
The point is not another bitcoin buy. Strategy reported no bitcoin purchases or sales for Aug. 17 through Aug. 23. Holdings stayed at 840,447 BTC. That is the only number that matters this week.
Bankless reported Strategy sold 18.26 million MSTR shares during the week for $2.01 billion in proceeds. Bitcoin Magazine put STRC repurchases at $136.4 million. The tape matches the story: equity came in, preferred shares got support, and bitcoin stayed flat.
If you're holding MSTR, your bag is now tied to more than the BTC count. The capital stack is moving while the bitcoin stack is not. That is cash, not leverage, and it changes the immediate read on the filing.
The USD Cash pool is separate from Strategy's USD Reserve. The existing reserve is for preferred-stock dividends and debt interest. The new pool is broader cash for Strategy's bitcoin treasury business.
Bitcoin Magazine reported Strategy has not bought bitcoin since June. That makes this pause harder to wave away as timing noise. Strategy is still a bitcoin company, but this week it acted like a company managing its own securities first.
Strategy's choice to sell MSTR and buy back STRC is the tell. Its securities now need support before another bitcoin buy.
Watch Strategy's next filing before Sept. 7: the indicator is whether BTC holdings stay at 840,447 while USD Cash remains above $1 billion.
