SpaceX moved bitcoin for the first time in six months. Three transfers, less than $300 total, and nothing hit an exchange.
SpaceX's June IPO put 18,712 BTC on a public balance sheet for the first time, more than doubling what analysts tracked onchain. When the wallets finally moved, it was fee maintenance.

- →SpaceX moved less than $300 across three bitcoin transfers on July 8, its first wallet activity in roughly six months, and none reached an exchange deposit address.
- →SpaceX's June 12 IPO revealed the company holds 18,712 BTC, more than double the 8,285 BTC Arkham had attributed to it onchain before the filing.
- →The only signal that would indicate a change in SpaceX's treasury strategy is a transfer to a known exchange deposit address, which has not occurred.
- exchange deposit address → A wallet address controlled by a crypto exchange, where sending coins is usually the first step before selling them.
- cost basis → The original price a company paid for an asset, used to calculate how much profit or loss they would make if they sold it.
SpaceX moved bitcoin on July 8 for the first time in roughly six months. Three transfers, according to Arkham Intelligence data cited by CoinDesk. Total moved: less than $300.
The company holds 18,712 BTC, verified across two sources. At current prices, that is approximately $1.16B, per CoinDesk. None of it moved toward an exchange.
The three transfers break down like this: 0.00213 BTC moved wallet-to-wallet, worth about $135. A second internal move came in at 0.00139 BTC, or about $89. Coinbase Prime sent 0.000738 BTC, about $47, to a SpaceX address, CoinDesk reported. That last one is the pattern worth knowing: a small fee top-up before custody work. No larger move followed.
The scrutiny was not accidental. SpaceX went public on June 12 in what CoinDesk calls the largest IPO on record. That filing put the company's full bitcoin position on a public balance sheet for the first time.
Before the IPO, Arkham had attributed roughly 8,285 BTC to SpaceX addresses. The actual figure was 18,712 BTC. If you were modeling corporate bitcoin exposure, you were more than 50% off.
SpaceX's cost basis is approximately $35,000 per coin, per CoinDesk. That puts total acquisition cost around $661M. At today's prices, the position has roughly $500M in unrealized gains. That's not a number a treasury manager sells quietly into a $300 test transfer.
Combined with Tesla's holdings, Elon Musk-affiliated companies hold more than 30,000 BTC, CoinDesk says. The tape says they're not selling.
If you're watching SpaceX's wallet activity, the only signal that matters is a transfer to a known exchange deposit address. That has not happened. Until it does, every small wallet move is noise, for now.
SpaceX created its own news problem at IPO. It disclosed $1.16B in bitcoin, then gave no public custody playbook. Now every routine wallet move trades as news.
Watch the next six months. A SpaceX bitcoin transfer to a verified exchange deposit address would be the first on-chain signal of a treasury shift.
