Coinbase sent a fake World Cup result five hours early. Its own prediction page disagreed.
Coinbase's AI sent a result wrong on the score, wrong on the time, and contradicted by its own prediction market.

- →Coinbase's AI pushed a Norway 3-2 Brazil World Cup notification to users at 10:26 a.m. ET today, more than five hours before the 4 p.m. kickoff.
- →Coinbase's own prediction-market page showed the match as weather-delayed at the same moment, making the internal contradiction visible to anyone who checked both screens.
- →The test for Coinbase's AI push feature is whether it can pass basic real-time checks before the next major live event on its prediction markets.

Coinbase pushed a fake World Cup score to users at 10:26 a.m. ET today.
The AI notification said Norway beat Brazil 3-2, crediting Haaland with two goals, according to CoinDesk. Kickoff was at 4:00 p.m. ET. The match had not started. Norway did win 2-1, and Haaland did score twice. The AI got the score wrong and the timing completely wrong.
And that's the catch: Coinbase's own prediction-market page showed the match as weather-delayed at the exact same moment. Users who checked both screens saw the contradiction in real time.
CEO Brian Armstrong said he was investigating. Max Branzburg, Coinbase's head of consumer and business products, said the alert was corrected. He also said the firm "made some updates to avoid these types of inaccuracies in the future."
Coinbase launched prediction markets for U.S. users in January 2026 through Kalshi. It has since added stock options, pre-IPO markets, and an AI adviser. The pitch is an everything exchange. Today's alert came from that AI layer.
If you held a position on this match through Coinbase, the platform gave two answers this morning. Its AI said one thing. Its own market page said another. That is the product failing in public.
A live-event AI alert that cannot check Coinbase's own market page is reckless. Coinbase's everything-exchange pitch gets narrower when the app cannot agree with itself.
Watch before the World Cup knockout rounds end in July 2026: Coinbase either labels AI-generated live-event alerts, suspends them, or ships another false match alert.
