SOL's 9x outperformance over BTC on Thursday is on the tape. What caused it isn't.

SOL gained 9.2% on Thursday, per CoinGecko. BTC added 1% and ETH added 1%. HYPE, the market's loudest long for most of last month, gained 4%. SOL outperformed everything.
The rotation story fits. Bankless flagged the prior positioning in an article published yesterday: "Last month, the loudest trade in crypto was long HYPE, short SOL." That setup unwinds, and the tape matches the story. But that's inferred, not confirmed.
No named source has identified the reason. That matters if you're in SOL, because moves without a named reason are harder to hold.
What makes this more interesting is the timing. Anza, the Solana Labs spin-out that maintains the validator client software, tagged Agave v4.1.0 as a pre-release on GitHub the same afternoon. The release page returned an error at publication time. No release notes are public yet.
That's the catch. A major software tag and a 9% price move landed in the same session. The news is visible. The notes still are not.
Anza's choice to tag v4.1.0 without readable release notes during a 9% price move is poor timing, whether or not the upgrade is connected to the move.
Before end of day June 28, watch whether Agave v4.1.0 release notes go live on GitHub. If they name a performance improvement or fee change, the move gets a retroactive catalyst.
