MARA just bought 1,000 BTC. It sold 20,880 in Q1, and that's the catch.
MARA spent Q1 selling $1.5 billion in bitcoin to wipe out debt. Buying $66.7 million back today is a direction change, not a strategy reset.

- →MARA reportedly bought 1,000 BTC for roughly $66.7 million through FalconX on June 16, its first notable purchase since a massive Q1 sell-off.
- →Q1 sales of 20,880 BTC funded a debt repurchase program; today's buy is 4.8% of that volume, which is directional but not decisive.

MARA reportedly bought 1,000 BTC today, roughly $66.7 million, through FalconX. It's the miner's first notable purchase since Q1 2026, when the company sold 20,880 BTC for approximately $1.5 billion.
The Q1 selling program had a clear reason. MARA used most of those proceeds to buy back its own 0.00% Convertible Senior Notes due 2030 and 2031, per U.Today. CEO Fred Thiel said the sales were meant to cut debt and avoid future shareholder dilution.
MARA's 2026 digital asset policy, amended earlier this year, allowed balance-sheet bitcoin sales for the first time. The 2025 version only allowed sales of newly mined coins. That change opened the door to Q1's run.
Today's buy is 4.8% of what MARA sold this quarter. That is the only number that matters right now. If you're reading this as an accumulation pivot, the scale doesn't support it.
One flag: no 8-K or official MARA investor relations statement has confirmed this purchase as of this writing. Both published reports trace to Tier 2 aggregators. The tape direction is clear. The primary source is not.
MARA was not alone. Publicly listed miners collectively sold more than 32,000 BTC in Q1 2026, reportedly a single-quarter record for the sector.
MARA let a $66.7 million treasury buy move through aggregator wires without an 8-K. That is sloppy investor relations after selling $1.5 billion in bitcoin three months ago.
An official MARA 8-K or investor relations filing confirming the 1,000 BTC purchase and any policy reversal, within 30 days of June 16.
