BitMine staked 160,480 more ETH before joining the Russell 1000. Passive funds now carry that bet.
Russell inclusion is a forced-buying event. BMNR's balance sheet is essentially staked ETH, and passive index funds now hold it.

- →Anticipated Russell 1000 inclusion forces passive index funds to buy BMNR stock, tying index mechanics directly to Ethereum staking economics.
- →Watch for FTSE Russell's official inclusion announcement and on-chain validator data confirming the staked ETH figure, both expected before June 30.
- Russell 1000 → A stock market index tracking the 1,000 largest US-listed companies. Funds that follow it must automatically buy every stock added to the list.
- Staking → Locking up ETH to help secure the Ethereum network in exchange for yield, typically around 3-4% per year.
BitMine staked 160,480 more ETH today. Lookonchain puts the company's total staked holdings at 4.88 million ETH as of this morning, 86% of its pile, per CryptoNews.
That 4.88 million figure needs a caveat. At roughly $2,500 per ETH, it implies about $12 billion in staked assets and would rank BitMine among the largest ETH stakers on the network. The number comes from a single Lookonchain post, not confirmed Beaconchain validator data.
The story holds regardless. Russell 1000 inclusion is a forced-buying event: passive funds that track the index must hold every stock on it. BMNR's balance sheet is essentially staked ETH. If you hold a broad US index fund and BitMine lands in the Russell 1000, you now have ETH staking yield without choosing it. That's the catch.
Tom Lee's name is the click. The mechanism is the story.
BitMine's choice to stake 86% of its treasury without publishing validator-level data on Beaconchain was the wrong call: passive fund managers about to inherit this position have no way to verify the number that sold them on the stock.
FTSE Russell's official reconstitution announcement confirming BMNR's inclusion, and whether Beaconchain validator data matches Lookonchain's reported 4.88 million ETH figure, both expected before June 30.
