The 24-hour bridge volume on the same page was $1.04 million. The 7-day figure is $190.75 million. Both are too small to explain a $500 million jump in locked value in one day.
Bridge TVL can move without bridge activity if locked assets gain in price. That's the most charitable read, for now. But DefiLlama is the only source with these figures, and Portal and Wormhole have not confirmed a cause.
Portal's exploit history is on the record. DefiLlama tags a prior signature exploit on the protocol, with $326 million eventually returned. No connection to today's move has been stated.
If you're tracking bridge flows, watch the 24-hour volume. TVL at $2.5 billion with daily flow under $2 million is a gap. That gap needs an explanation.
Portal's silence is the story. A $500 million TVL jump with $1 million in daily flow has two possible explanations: price appreciation, or something else. Portal has not said which. That is harder to explain than the gap.
If Portal's 24-hour bridge volume on DefiLlama is still under $5 million by end of May 16, the TVL jump has no bridge activity to explain it.
