FIFA is testing ticket rights before the ticket exists. The 2026 World Cup experiment uses a custom Avalanche chain, operated through FIFA Collect and Modex. The chain does not issue the match ticket itself. It manages two instruments around the ticket.
The first is the RTB, or Right-to-Buy. It gives priority access to buy a specific ticket later. When redeemed, it becomes an RTT, or Right-to-Ticket. That RTT can then connect back into FIFA's normal ticketing system.
That split is the real mechanism. The code does what the announcement says, plus something more useful. It turns a messy resale market into a state machine FIFA can observe. Buy the right, redeem the right, then claim the ticket.
Ava Labs says more than 100,000 RTBs have been issued as of this week. It also says more than 50,000 Club World Cup tickets were distributed in bundles with RTBs. RTT secondary-market volume has passed $15 million, according to Ava Labs. Combined RTB and RTT volume has passed $25 million, from the same source.
Those numbers matter, but don't overread them. They all come from Ava Labs, not an independent market report. If you're holding AVAX because of this, your bag is not directly the ticket system. FIFA is using a customized Avalanche chain, not Avalanche mainnet.
At the contract level, the important feature is routing. Traditional resale platforms own the user relationship after the first sale. StubHub, SeatGeek, Ticketmaster, and Vivid Seats know who the buyer became. FIFA often doesn't. The RTB and RTT model pulls that path back into FIFA's view.
This is not just fraud reduction. FIFA gets a way to see the final attendee before the old ticket stack finishes the job. That matters at World Cup scale, where bots, brokers, and real fans all hit the same gates.
The tradeoff is control for complexity. FIFA now has two digital rights before one actual seat. That can work if redemption is clean and support is boring. It breaks if users cannot tell which right they own, or when it turns into a new broker game with better tracking.
Read the mechanism, not the chain logo. The blockchain part is replaceable. The RTB-to-RTT path is the interesting piece because it makes resale behavior visible and programmable. For now, that's a better ticketing idea than another anti-scalping press release.
FIFA's choice to split RTB from RTT is the right experiment because it routes resale demand back through FIFA instead of begging brokers to share buyer data.
