Solana just voted to slow new SOL. Kraken's late swing is the real test.
The inflation cut is real, but the first binding vote also showed how much one large validator can matter.

Solana validators voted to slow new SOL creation.
SGP-0002 passed on August 28 at epoch 1024. It was Solana's first binding on-chain governance vote. The change doubles annual disinflation from 15% to 30%. The terminal inflation target stays 1.5%.
The proposal says the change would cut emissions by 18.9 million SOL over six years. It also says Solana could reach terminal inflation in 2.8 years. That figure comes from the proposal itself. The vote is direction, not code. Implementation still has to move through SIMD-0550.
According to The Defiant's final tally, 176.29 million SOL voted for SGP-0002. Another 66.19 million SOL voted against. That gave the proposal 72.7% approval excluding abstentions. Solana's governance docs set the pass line at two-thirds of For plus Against stake, with Abstain removed.
If you're holding SOL, the obvious part is lower future issuance. The less obvious part is who can move that decision. Multiple secondary reports say Kraken's large validator changed its vote late. No first-party Kraken source was provided.
That's the catch. Stake-weighted governance is clean when everyone can see the rules. It gets messier when one late validator move can change the room's temperature.
At the protocol level, this is an economics patch waiting for code. At the governance level, it's a live test. Solana has to prove big money decisions will not turn every late vote into the only number that matters.
Solana governance is making its inflation math harder to audit by lacking a canonical vote-change log after Kraken's reported late flip.
By October 31, 2026, watch whether SIMD-0550 lands in a client release with the 30% disinflation schedule; if it doesn't, this vote was signal before code.
