Centrifuge just hit $1.6B in TVL. On-chain private credit now looks big enough for institutions.
The jump may be real demand or one large pool moving, but either way private credit is no longer a small RWA demo.

- →Centrifuge Protocol rose 18.1% in 24 hours to $1.6B in TVL, per DefiLlama data on June 10.
- →That makes on-chain private credit look institution-sized, but the data does not show what caused the surge.

- TVL → Total value locked is the total amount of assets deposited in a crypto protocol.
- RWA → Real-world assets are crypto tokens or protocols tied to assets outside crypto, like loans, bonds, or funds.
- Private credit → Private credit is lending arranged outside public debt markets, usually through funds or specialist managers.
$1.6B is now sitting in Centrifuge Protocol, per DefiLlama.
The data site showed TVL up 18.1% in 24 hours as of June 10. That is a huge one-day move for on-chain private credit. It is not just another tokenized Treasury chart.
The thesis is simple. Centrifuge now looks less like a proof-of-concept and more like a capital destination. But the source does not show what caused the jump, and that's the catch.
Centrifuge lets asset managers tokenize and distribute funds on-chain. Investors get access to diversified tokenized assets, rather than only short-term government debt. That matters because private credit is messier than Treasuries. The loans are not identical, and the managers matter more.
If you're watching RWA deals, this is the part to care about. Tokenized Treasuries proved that safe yield could live on-chain. Private credit asks a harder question: can longer-dated credit move on-chain without losing trust?
The numbers show scale, but not source. DefiLlama lists Centrifuge under private credit and RWA. It also shows deployments across chains, including Plume Mainnet. The listed Plume pools were only $105,670 and $157,907 as of June 10. That is tiny next to $1.6B.
So the market has one missing fact. Did one large pool move, did a new mandate land, or did a chain expansion get counted? The data does not answer that. Without the pool-level driver, the numbers don't add up cleanly.
The old-market parallel is the index-fund buildout. The product was not the whole story. Distribution, reporting, and trust decided where big investors put money. Centrifuge is trying to solve that problem for private credit on-chain.
This is still a strong signal. An 18.1% daily jump at $1.6B is too large to ignore. But institutional scale is not just a big TVL print. It is repeat deposits, named managers, and visible pools.
For now, Centrifuge has earned attention, not a victory lap. If the next update ties this move to real inflows across several pools, the category gets bigger. If it traces to one pool, the story shrinks fast.
Without a named pool or manager this month, Centrifuge's $1.6B headline is a weaker institutional signal than it looks.
By June 30, watch whether DefiLlama or Centrifuge shows TVL above $1.6B across more than one pool instead of falling back below $1.4B.
