- →Revolut will remove USDT on August 31 and convert remaining balances to fiat, according to CoinTelegraph.
- →That matters because Revolut is one of Europe's largest neobanks, giving Tether a real retail distribution problem.
- →Watch whether Tether files for an EU license or another top European exchange removes USDT before Q4 2026.
- MiCA → The European Union's official crypto rulebook, including licensing rules for stablecoin issuers.
- on-ramp → A platform where people can buy crypto using regular money.
- stablecoin → A crypto token designed to track the price of a regular currency, usually the US dollar.
Revolut is removing USDT on August 31. CoinTelegraph reported that any USDT left after that date will convert into a user's base currency.
Tether doesn't have MiCA authorization. That's the catch. MiCA requires stablecoin issuers to hold an EU license. Without one, regulated platforms take on compliance risk by keeping USDT listed.
This is already a pattern. OKX Europe and Bitstamp restricted or removed USDT under similar MiCA pressure earlier this year. Revolut is the biggest retail name to follow.
The damage is distribution. Revolut is one of Europe's largest neobanks by user base. Losing that channel means many retail buyers won't meet USDT inside their banking app.
If you're holding USDT in Revolut, August 31 is the only number that matters. Check the conversion terms before the app makes the choice for you.
Tether's moat is access. Every on-ramp it loses without a MiCA license is one Circle can quietly pick up.
Tether's refusal to secure MiCA authorization before Q4 2026 is handing Circle Europe's retail stablecoin market by default.
Watch for Tether to file an EU stablecoin license application, or for another top-10 European exchange to remove USDT before Q4 2026.
