Kraken just added Tempo payments. The fee test starts now.
Tempo's pitch is simple: make stablecoin payments feel less like crypto plumbing and more like money movement.

- →Kraken added Tempo deposits and withdrawals for USDT0 and USDC.e, making it the first U.S. centralized exchange to integrate the network.
- →Tempo's real edge is stablecoin-paid fees, which remove the extra gas-token step that hurts payment chains.
- →Spot trading is still pending liquidity, so the real test is whether users move size through Tempo this quarter.
- USDT0 → USDT0 is a version of Tether's dollar stablecoin built to move across multiple blockchains.
- USDC.e → USDC.e is a bridged version of Circle's USDC, meaning it represents USDC moved through another network.
- Gas token → A gas token is the cryptocurrency you need to hold just to pay transaction fees on most blockchains.
Kraken just opened Tempo deposits and withdrawals, with roughly 0.5-second settlement. The exchange added native support for USDT0 and USDC.e on Tempo, according to its blog. Kraken says it is the first U.S. centralized exchange to integrate the network.
The important part isn't another chain listing. It's Tempo's stablecoin-native fee model. Users pay network fees in dollar stablecoins, with no separate gas token to buy first. If you've ever moved money on-chain and had to hunt for a tiny amount of another coin, you know the problem.
That friction has killed payment-chain stories before. The 1960s eurodollar market grew because dollars could move outside U.S. banking rails without asking users to learn new money. Tempo is making a similar bet for stablecoins: keep the payment unit and the fee unit the same.
Kraken says Tempo is built for cross-border payments, payroll, embedded finance, and institutional money movement. It also says Paradigm and Stripe incubated the network, though that claim comes from Kraken's blog alone. For now, the brand helps. The economics still have to prove themselves.
Spot trading is not live yet. Kraken says the app and Instant Buy will follow once liquidity conditions are met, with no timeline. Deposits to unsupported networks can be lost, and geographic limits may apply. The launch is real, but partial.
Tempo's first test is not speed. It's whether stablecoin users care enough to move funds when the adoption tax finally disappears.
Kraken's choice to open deposits before spot trading is the right partial launch because Tempo still has to prove liquidity, not just fast settlement.
Before the end of Q3 2026, watch whether Kraken turns on Tempo spot trading for USDT0 or USDC.e and shows live order books with at least $1M within 1% of mid-price.
