Bitcoin fell below $64,000 before the Fed decision. The surprise hike risk is officially real.
The market is not trading a crypto story today. It's trading whether Kevin Warsh wants to break the Fed's old signaling habit.

- →Bitcoin traded just under $64,000 this morning after nearly hitting $67,000 last week, according to CoinDesk.
- →CME FedWatch put July hike odds at 35.8%, making the Fed decision the only number that matters today.
- →Watch whether Warsh hikes today or keeps rates flat, because either outcome resets how crypto prices Fed risk.
- basis point → A basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage point, so 25 basis points means 0.25%.
- forward guidance → Forward guidance is when the Fed signals future rate moves before it actually makes them.
- spot Bitcoin ETF → A spot Bitcoin ETF is a fund that holds bitcoin and trades on a regular stock exchange.
Bitcoin sat just under $64,000 this morning. CoinDesk said it had pulled back from nearly $67,000. CryptoSlate put bitcoin at $63,795 at press time, after an intraday low of $62,913.
The real trade is not bitcoin momentum. It is whether Kevin Warsh's Fed hikes without the usual long warning. CME FedWatch put the July 29 hike probability at 35.8% this morning, per CoinDesk. That is too high to ignore and too low to be consensus.
The current federal funds target range was 3.50% to 3.75% as of June 18, per the Fed. A 25-basis-point hike would move it to 3.75% to 4.00%. CoinDesk reported that Citadel Securities' macro team is calling for that surprise hike. Crypto analysts cited in the same cluster mostly expect no change.
If you're holding bitcoin today, your bag is not waiting for a crypto catalyst. It is waiting for a central bank behavior test. Forward guidance trained markets to expect the Fed to warn first and move later. Warsh's no-guidance setup makes the opposite possible.
The ETF flow backdrop is already softer. CryptoSlate reported about $477 million of spot Bitcoin ETF net outflows over the past three trading sessions. That does not prove panic. It does show less patience for a rate shock.
The clean read is simple. A hold keeps bitcoin's macro story intact, for now. A surprise hike says the Fed wants markets to relearn uncertainty in one meeting. That's the catch.
Warsh's no-guidance Fed is leaving Bitcoin to trade rumors, because 35.8% hike odds are too big to treat as noise.
By the July 29 FOMC statement, watch whether the target range moves to 3.75% to 4.00% or stays at 3.50% to 3.75%.
